Newell sheep sales reportSt. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., Newell, S.D., reported receipts of 1,056 head Feb. 28, compared to 559 head last week and 280 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D. Compared to last week, slaughter ewes sold steady in a light test. Feeder lambs were lightly tested last week, so trends were not applicable. Receipts were comprised of about 78% feeder lambs, 8% slaughter ewes and bucks, 6% slaughter lambs with the balance bred ewes. Slaughter lambs: Wooled, Choice 2 to 3, 119 to 124 lbs., 85.50 to 86.00 (85.62); 16 head, 136 lbs., 86.50; 13 head, 154 lbs., 65.00 buck lambs. Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 18 head, 174 lbs., 24.50. Utility 1 to 2, 26 head, 146 lbs., 21.50. Cull 1, 43 head, 129 lbs., 9.50. Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 41 head, 68 lbs., 109.50; 44 head, 72 lbs., 109.50; 86 to 88 lbs., 104.50 to 105.25 (104.80); 193 head, 87 lbs., 115.75 gaunt; 91 to 99 lbs., 101.75 to 102.25 (101.88); 101 to 108 lbs., 99.25 to 101.25 (100.47); 112 to 115 lbs., 93.75 to 99.75 (98.55). Medium frame 1 to 2, 7 head, 58 lbs., 101.50; 36 head, 84 lbs., 99.50. Slaughter bucks: 4 head, 201 lbs., 18.25 fleshy.
