Carbon credit meeting March 18

Area agriculture producers have another chance to learn about receiving additional income for conservation practices they are already doing that sequester carbon. Baca County Conservation District and Southeast Rocky Mountain Farmers Union are sponsoring a lunch meeting March 18 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., in the Lamar Community Building (610 South 6th Street).

Liz Mathern, Carbon Credit Program Specialist, will explain Farmers Union's Carbon Credit Program. She will discuss the application process and program details. Tony Frank, RMFU's representative that spoke at the July 2007 meetings, will also be there to answer questions.

Producers can enroll in five categories: conservation tillage, long term grass seeding, rangeland management, forestry and methane offset. For detailed information you can also look at http://carboncredit.ndfu.org. The sign-up deadline is Aug. 15.

Sandwiches are being provided by Southeast Rocky Mountain Farmers Union, so please RSVP with Misty or Shandra at BCCD at 719-523-4522, ext. 3, by March 14.
