Application requirements for corn fungicide updated

BASF, Research Triangle Park, N.C., announced its 2008 application requirements for Headline fungicide in corn.

BASF continues to invest time and research into supporting its product portfolio, including Headline. The 2008 requirements build on that deep understanding of corn fungicide application as Headline has more than 5,000 on-farm trials on a quarter of a million acres to its credit. With every extra bushel of corn needed to meet rising demand, proper fungicide application is important to maximizing yield.

The 2008 application requirements for Headline in corn are as follows. The optimal application window for Headline is the VT stage through R2 (full tassel through blister). At the VT stage or later, Headline may be used with an adjuvant. When Headline is used prior to full tassel stage, do not use an adjuvant. The VT stage begins when the last branch of the tassel is completely visible outside the whorl (see illustration on page 2).

Headline fungicide offers disease control with plant health benefits, as well as better standability at corn harvest. Results from on-farm field trials in 2007 showed a 12 to 16 bu/A corn yield advantage.
