Wyobraska cattle sales report

The combined sales volume of Wyoming, western Nebraska, and western North and South Dakota auctions for the week ending May 31, totaled 1,200 head, compared to 3,275 head last week and 2,425 head last year, according to the USDA-Wyoming Department of Agriculture Market News, Torrington, Wyo.

Compared to last week at Wyoming auctions, feeder steers and heifers were not well tested. Demand was moderate to good. Direct trading was slow with no comparison available. Demand was moderate to light. Buyer inquiry was light to moderate on light offerings. Unless otherwise noted direct prices are current FOB with a 2 to 3% shrink or equivalent and with a 5 to 10 cent from base weight. Steers made up approximately 24% of the supply, heifers 76%, with 78% over 600 pounds. Direct sales accounted for 570 head of the total receipts.

Steers: Auctions, Medium and large frame 1, 520 to 540 lbs., 124.00 to 126.00; 850 lbs., 106.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 580 lbs., 121.50.00. Large frame 2, thin 465 lbs., 44.00; thin 580 lbs., 44.00; thin 690 lbs., 42.00. Direct, FOB price, Medium and large frame 1, 825 lbs., 106.00. Delivered price, Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 800 lbs., 107.00.

Heifers: Auctions, Medium and large frame 1, 460 lbs., 124.50; 560 to 580 lbs., 101.00 to 114.75; 660 lbs., 113.00; 710 to 735 lbs., 108.50 to 110.00; 750 to 800 lbs., 103.00 to 108.00; 805 to 820 lbs., 105.10 to 107.10. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 465 lbs., 113.00; 550 lbs., 108.00. Medium and large frame 2, 415 lbs., 104.00; 450 lbs., 103.00. Direct, FOB price, Medium and large frame 1, 775 lbs., 101.00; 835 lbs., 104.25. Delivered price, Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 760 lbs., 102.00.
