Moisture levels still below averagesColorado The northeast portion of Colorado is still experiencing the effects of the tornados two weeks ago, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, Colorado Field Office, June 2. Moisture amounts are still well below average for this time of year, although warm temperatures continue to advance crops. Producers were allowed 6.4 days in the field for spring operations. Winter wheat was 57 percent headed and 2 percent turning color this week with the crop rated in mostly fair to poor condition. Spring barley was 98 percent emerged and in mostly good condition. Spring wheat was 98 percent planted, 84 percent emerged, and in mostly good to fair condition. The 2008 corn crop was 98 percent planted and 71 percent emerged last week. The crop is in mostly fair condition. Summer potatoes were 80 percent planted and 45 percent emerged. The fall potato crop was 99 percent planted and 10 percent emerged. Sorghum was 29 percent planted by week's end. Sugarbeets were 64 percent up to stand with the crop in good condition. Farmers had 36 percent of the sunflowers planted. Pasture and range conditions across Colorado continue to be rated in mostly fair to poor condition.
