McAlester livestock market report

The McAlester Union Livestock Market, McAlester, Okla., reported receipts of 2,489 head June 3, compared to 2,850 head last year, according to the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to two weeks ago, stocker cattle were mostly steady, instances were $1 to $3 lower. Feeder cattle were firm on aggressive trade. There was a good attendance of buyers. Demand was good for heavier weight cattle, moderate on balance. Many new to crop calves and cutting bulls traded. Cattle were in thin to fleshy conditions. Receipts included 46% steers, 39% heifers, 15% bulls with 28% feeder cattle over 600 pounds. Slaughter cows and bulls were steady with a good attendance of buyers. A total of 285 cows and bulls sold with 55% to packers.

Lean, 16 head, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1125 lbs., 53.00 to 57.00; low dressing, 49.00 to 52.50. Light, 32 head, 85 to 90% lean, 750 to 975 lbs., 47.00 to 50.00; high dressing, 51.00 to 54.50; low dressing, 42.00 to 45.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 28 head, 1030 to 2130 lbs., 67.50 to 71.00; high dressing, 72.00 to 78.00; low dressing, 62.50 to 66.50.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 5 to 7 years old, 950 to 1475 lbs., 4 to 6 months bred, average quality, 730.00 to 840.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 4 to 6 years old, 900 to 1125 lbs., with 180- to 280-lb. calves, average mixed cows, 890.00 to 960.00; 6 years old, 1000 to 1175 lbs., with 275- to 300-lb. calves, average blacks, 1070.00 to 1100.00.
