Joplin regional cattle sales reportThe Joplin Regional Stockyards, Joplin, Mo., reported receipts of 7,400 head June 2, compared to 7,000 head two weeks ago and 7,445 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News, Jefferson City, Mo. There was no sale last week due to the holiday, compared to two weeks ago, steers calves under 550 pounds were $1 to $5 higher, and steers over 550 pounds and heifers, all weights, were $2 to $4 higher. Demand was moderate to good, supply was moderate. Cattle futures closed lower due to profit taking and higher corn futures, but that was not a deterrent as cattle buyers actively bid up the offering. The feeder supply included 45% steers, 48% heifers, 7% bulls, with 53% over 600 pounds.
