Grant applications for on-farm wind turbines deadline extended to June 18

Colorado

Southeast Colorado RC&D has received an Advancing Colorado's Renewable Energy (ACRE) implementation grant from the Colorado Department of Agriculture. Southeast Colorado RC&D is offering up to 25 percent cost share to successful applicants who will install wind turbines for on-farm use in the Eastern Plains of Colorado. Successful applicants agree to work with RC&D to install the wind turbine in a timely fashion.

Due to the amount of interest, the deadline for application has been extended to 4:30 p.m. on June 18th, 2008. The request for proposals can be found at: www.iCASTusa.org/WindRFP. Applicants will be notified of a funding decision by July 15, 2008. Funding is limited and the Southeast Colorado RC&D will seek to fund as many projects as possible. All application material should be sent to: misty.george@co.nacdnet.net or fax to 719-532-6263.

Southeast Colorado RC&D will reimburse applicants following successful installation, checkout, and commissioning of the wind turbine. Applicants chosen for funding who choose not to order a turbine by September 15, 2008 will not be eligible for cost share assistance. It is the responsibility of each applicant to obtain necessary insurance, permits and abide by all applicable federal, state and local laws.

This grant is a pilot project to demonstrate the applicability of small wind for agricultural uses. Successful applicants agree to cooperate with Southeast Colorado RC&D, Rocky Mountain Farmers Union (RMFU), iCAST (International Center for Appropriate and Sustainable Technology) in coordinating a tour to showcase their wind turbine and farm operation once the wind turbine has been installed and commissioned. Grant recipients also agree to cooperate with Southeast Colorado RC&D, RMFU, and iCAST on the creation of educational material. For public education purposes, turbines may be equipped with software that records energy generation information from the wind turbine. For questions call Misty George at: 719-523-6251 ext. 3 or e-mail: misty.george@co.nacdnet.net.

Applicants must provide a feasibility study and turbine micrositing. Ranking will prioritize systems that match energy load, economic viability, progress in acquiring required permits, favorable rate structures, and a wide range of projects across Colorado's agricultural region.
