Amarillo livestock sales reportThe Amarillo Livestock Auction, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 1,232 head June 4, compared to 552 head last week and 1,207 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News, Amarillo, Texas. Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers were steady to $2 higher where tested except light weight new crop calves under 400 pounds which appeared substantially higher but have been untested in recent weeks. Dry weather has increased the volume of bawling new crop calves, with several consignments of high quality calves in the offering this week. Consignors that were forced to sell calves due to dry weather have been at least greeted with prices that are considerably higher than a month or two ago. New crop bawling calves trade several dollars below weaned calves which is a normal spread especially during times of high heat and weather stress. Slaughter cows and bulls were steady on a good test with almost 400 cows on offer. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 250- to 600-pound feeder steers and heifers.
