TEST PLOTS--Growers from around north central Oklahoma and south central Kansas participated in the OKANOLA Project's Winter Canola Field Day in late April 2008. The plot tours were a combined effort on the part of Oklahoma State University, Monsanto, and John Deere. Representatives from DEKALB were on hand to discuss their latest varieties of Roundup Ready canola, which is quickly becoming a popular rotation crop with winter wheat in Oklahoma and Kansas. John Deere representatives showcased their 1870 Air Hoe Drill, with the Conserva Pak attachment. This attachment allows growers to clear field residue from only a narrow band in the field, allowing for improved seed-to-soil contact for canola seeds, while still reaping the benefits of no-till.
