UW Extension offers training for Big Horn Basin retail pesticide suppliers

Wyoming

Training sessions for yard, garden and hardware pesticide suppliers are being offered by University of Wyoming Cooperative Extension Service educators in the Big Horn Basin.

Issues include regulations, pesticide safety, assisting customers, current and anticipated yard and garden problems, and identifying the problems and selecting the best products, said Ron Cunningham UW CES educator in Lander. Cunningham and fellow educators Jim Gill of Worland and Sandra Frost of Powell will conduct the presentations.

"Employees will learn about typical horticulture-type problems they can expect to encounter in their communities and thus be better prepared to help serve their horticulture customers' needs," said Gill. "Participants will gain knowledge on Wyoming's pesticide laws and regulations, packaging and transporting products, pesticide storage and much more. A walking tour to talk about tree, shrub and lawn problems will be conducted as well."

Training locations are:

--June 24

Lander, 9 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., in the Fremont County Courthouse mapping room.

Riverton, 2 p.m. to 4:45 p.m., in the UW CES meeting room.

--June 25

Powell, 2 p.m. to 4:45 p.m., at the Extension meeting room at the Park County Fairgrounds.

There is a $20 fee. Applications are required by June 16, and are available by calling Cunningham at 307-332-1044, Gill at 307-347-3431 or Frost at 307-754-8836.
