Sioux Falls sheep salesThe Sioux Falls sheep auction, Sioux Falls, S.D., reported receipts of 1,062 head June 24, compared to 825 head last week and 1,174 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D. Compared to last week, slaughter lambs sold mostly steady with moderate demand. Feeder lambs sold mostly $2 to $5 lower. High grain prices on the cash and futures market has suppressed the demand for feeders. Ewes where lightly tested, not enough receipts to develop an accurate trend, but a lower undertone was noted. The supply consisted of 40% slaughter lambs, 7% slaughter ewes, and 53% feeder lambs. Slaughter lambs: Shorn Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 29 head, 134 lbs., 117.75. Shorn Choice 2 to 3, 12 head, 133 lbs., 108.00; 5 head, 158 lbs., 103.00 buck lambs. Wooled, Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 111 to 128 lbs., 114.00 to 116.50 (115.66); 138 to 142 lbs., 116.50 to 117.00 (116.95); 39 head, 151 lbs., 116.00. Wooled, Choice 2 to 3, 39 head, 107 lbs., 106.00; 118 to 128 lbs., 110.00 to 113.50 (112.78); 11 head, 141 to 149 lbs., 100.00 to 103.00 (101.05) buck lambs. Wooled, Good and Choice 1 to 3, 8 head, 128 lbs., 94.00. Slaughter ewes: Utility and Good 2 to 3, 9 head, 178 to 199 lbs., 20.00 to 27.00 (25.58); 2 head, 208 lbs., 23.00. Utility 1 to 2, 3 head, 142 lbs., 17.00; 14 head, 174 to 182 lbs., 15.00. Cull and Utility 1 to 2, 11 head, 123 to 139 lbs., 8.00 to 10.00 (8.50); 4 head, 178 lbs., 13.00.
