NBA partners with U.S., Colorado departments of agriculture to promote restaurant and meat case sales of bisonThe National Bison Association will launch "Buff up with Bison," a bison meat promotional campaign, Sept. 1, in the Salt Lake City Metro Area. The promotion is funded by a federal-state marketing improvement program grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and is administered by the Colorado Department of Agriculture. Sept. 1 through Oct. 31 the NBA will be staging a series of high visibility events to attract Salt Lake City consumer attention and introduce potential customers to bison meat. Included in these promotions, is a treasure hunt for a U.S. Treasury 1903-issued $10 Bison Note, now worth about $1,000. The NBA will also be delivering samples of gourmet bison products to local media outlets around the area. The marketing campaign also will include targeted advertising, educational promotions, restaurants featuring unique bison menus, and targeted retail promotions. The NBA is currently working with restaurants and specialty meat shops wishing to feature bison menus during the fall promotion. "This program is a fantastic opportunity for restaurants and retailers in Salt Lake City as well as for producers of high-quality bison," said Dave Carter, NBA executive director and promotional campaign manager. "We want to develop an effective and cost-efficient prototype for marketing and promotion of bison meat. Our hope is that the promotion can be replicated in other areas across the country." Carter also notes that the promotional project will be used by the Colorado Department of Agriculture as a model in the promotion of other types of specialty food products. Restaurants and retailers interesting in bison supplier lists or partnering with the NBA on this promotion can contact Carter at david@bisoncentral.com or 303-594-4420. 6/30/08 Date: 6/25/08 Advertisement
