McAlester livestock auction report

The McAlester Union Livestock Market, McAlester, Okla., reported receipts of 2,015 head June 24, compared to 1,785 head last week and 1,400 head last year, according to the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, stocker and feeder cattle were steady. Good attendance of buyers and active on feeder cattle, moderate on the balance. Cattle in thin to fleshy condition with many new-crop calves in the trade. Receipts consisted of 49% steers, 39% heifers, 13% bulls with 29% feeder cattle over 600 pounds. Slaughter bulls were steady. Slaughter cows were steady to $2 higher on the upper tier boner and breaker cows. Good attendance of buyers. Good demand for good bred cows. Pairs were limited. A total of 285 cows and bulls sold with 60% going to packers.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 20 head, 1075 to 2075 lbs., 69.00 to 72.50; high dressing, 74.00 to 78.00; low dressing, 64.50 to 68.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 5 to 8 years old, 1050 to 1450 lbs., 2nd trimester, average blacks 800.00 to 880.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 6 years old, 1000 lbs., with 305-lb. calves, high black 1060.00; 4 to 6 years old, 885 to 1260 lbs., with 230- to 320-lb. calves, average quality 850.00 to 920.00.
