Gelbvieh Western Regional Show features strong cattle competitionThe Colorado Gelbvieh Association rolled out the red carpet to welcome American Gelbvieh Junior Association members from four states to the AGJA Western Regional Columbine Classic in Sterling, Colo. The two-day event featured contests, showmanship, cattle shows and fun events. Judge Clint Sexon of Oregon selected RTRM Patty 98NP ET as the Grand Champion Gelbvieh Female for the Western Regional. David Rea of Berthoud, Colo., exhibited this cow-calf pair to top honors. Patty is a 2004 daughter of SLC Freedom 178F ET. The heifer calf at side, RTRD Vanilla Lace 203U, earned Grand Champion Bred and Owned Gelbvieh Female honors for David Rea. The heifer calf is a February 2008 daughter of RTRT Solution. Stepping into the Reserve Champion Gelbvieh Female slot was Ben Carpenter of Vale, Ore., with RTRD Tequila 747T ET. Tequila is a February 2007 daughter of BTI Extra 2106K ET. Michael Rea of Berthoud, Colo., earned Reserve Champion Bred and Owned Gelbvieh Female with RTRT Temptress 168T ET, a March 2007 daughter of BTI Extra 2106K ET. In the Balancer Female Show, Wyatt Taylor of Kiowa, Colo., took top honors with KTCC Blanche 702T. Blanche is a January 2007 daughter of B/R Magnum 5140. Matt Raile of St. Francis, Kan., won Reserve Champion Balancer Female honors with DMRS Tutti-Frutti 725T, a February 2007 daughter of TC Freedom 104. Kaisha and Kacie Jurgens of Miller, Neb., swept the Bred and Owned Balancer Female honors with their entries. Kaisha earned Grand Champion Bred and Owned Balancer Female with DCJ Ms Chocolate Pie 605S, a February 2006 cow out of BR Midland. Kacie earned Reserve Champion Bred and Owned Balancer Female with DCJ Ms Sweet Dreams 712T, a March 2007 daughter of BUF BFCK Cherokee Cnyn 4912. In the Market/Prospect Steer Division, Kacie Jurgens of Nebraska took top honors with her entry weighing 1,240 pounds. Mitch Garcia of Las Animas, Colo., earned Reserve Champion Steer with BNW 6T, a 1,245-pound entry. Michael Rea of Berthoud, Colo., won Champion Bred and Owned Gelbvieh Bull honors with RTRT Uprise 198U, a late January 2008 son of RTRT Solution. Kaisha Jurgens earned Grand Champion Bred and Owned Balancer Bull in the first-ever bred and owned Balancer bull competition. Her entry, DCJ Mr First Class 711T, is a February 2007 son of BR Midland.
