Ft. Smith livestock sales report

The Ft. Smith Livestock Auction, Ft. Smith, Ark., reported receipts of 798 head June 23, compared to 632 head last week and 871 head last year, according to the Arkansas Extension Service-USDA Market News, Little Rock, Ark.

Compared to last week, slaughter cows were $3 higher. Slaughter bulls were $4 to $6 lower. Feeder steers were $4 to $8 higher, instances higher. Feeder heifers were steady to $5 higher. The supply included 420 feeder calves, 237 feeder yearlings, 37 replacement cows, 84 slaughter cows, 11 cutting bulls, 9 slaughter bulls, and 0 replacement bulls. The feeder supply consisted of about 40% English breed and English crosses, 30% exotic breed and exotic crosses, 30% Brahman and Brahman cross, and 0% Holsteins and other dairy breeds. The feeder supply was about 55% steers and bulls with 45% heifers.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 50.00 to 55.50; high dressing, 56.00 to 60.00. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 45.00 to 49.50; high dressing, 50.00 to 55.50; low dressing, 40.00 to 44.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 54.00 to 58.50; high dressing, 59.00 to 63.50; low dressing, 49.00 to 53.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1000 to 2100 lbs., 61.00 to 64.00; high dressing, 67.00 to 71.50.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 310 to 343 lbs., 125.00 to 138.00 (129.19); 355 to 393 lbs., 124.00 to 133.00 (125.90); 410 to 445 lbs., 121.00 to 134.00 (125.05); 450 to 495 lbs., 113.00 to 121.00 (117.12); 500 to 540 lbs., 116.00 to 123.00 (119.87); 553 to 595 lbs., 104.00 to 112.00 (107.39); 600 to 648 lbs., 100.00 to 109.00 (102.30); 670 to 698 lbs., 100.00 to 109.00 (102.92); 700 to 715 lbs., 95.00 to 100.00 (96.60); 808 to 808 lbs., 85.00 (85.00); 875 to 885 lbs., 81.00 to 87.00 (83.01); 965 to 990 lbs., 81.00 to 97.00 (86.40). Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 2 to 3 years old, 700 to 1050 lbs., open cows, 60.00 to 82.00; 5 to 7 years old, 700 to 1350 lbs., open cows, 50.00 to 65.00; 2 to 7 years old, 850 to 1200 lbs., second stage, 600.00 to 710.00 per head; 4 to 7 years old, 900 to 1450 lbs., third stage, 48.00 to 60.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 5 to 7 years old, 700 to 1000 lbs., with 100- to 200-lb. calves, 650.00 to 1000.00 per pair.
