Clinton Laflin received the Junior Bronze, Silver awards

Kansas

Clinton Laflin, Eureka, Kan., has earned the National Junior Angus Association's Bronze and Silver Awards, according to James Fisher, director of junior activities for the American Angus Association in Saint Joseph, Mo.

Laflin is the 19-year-old son of Cory and Heather Fuesz and Guy Laflin and is a May 2008 graduate of Eureka High School. He has been a member of the NJAA since 2002 and is also active in the Kansas Junior Angus Association where he has served as membership director and district director. He represented Kansas as a voting delegate to the NJAA. At the National Junior Angus Show, he has participated in many contests including the All-American Certified Angus Beef Cook-off, public speaking and team sales. Laflin has exhibited his cattle at numerous national, state and local shows. He has enrolled his cattle in Angus Herd Improvement Records and has consigned cattle to the National Western Angus Bull Sale and Laflin Ranch Production Sale.

The Bronze and Silver Awards are the first two levels of the NJAA Recognition Program that began in 1972. Junior Angus breeders must apply for the awards and then meet point requirements in many areas of participation before receiving the honors. Applicants are evaluated in areas of junior Angus association activities and leadership, participation in showmanship, contests and shows, using performance testing to improve their herd and their progress in producing and merchandising Angus cattle.

The NJAA promotes the involvement of young people in raising Angus cattle, while also providing leadership and self-development opportunities for nearly 11,000 members nationwide.
