Sioux Falls sheep sales report

The Sioux Falls sheep sales auction, Sioux Falls, S.D., reported receipts of 825 head June 17, compared to 809 head last week and 1,085 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, slaughter lambs sold firm to $2 higher. Feeder lambs sold weak to $2 lower. Less attractive feeder quality, resulted in lighter demand. Slaughter ewes sold firm to $1 higher, with moderate demand. The sheep and lamb supply consisted of 40% slaughter lambs; 28% slaughter ewes, and 32% feeder lambs.

Slaughter lambs: Shorn, Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 130 to 140 lbs., 117.25 to 117.50 (117.39). Wooled, Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 130 to 145 lbs., 115.50 to 118.50 (117.72). Wooled Choice 2 to 3, 95 to 108 lbs., 109.50 to 110.00 (109.72); 5 head, 118 lbs., 94.00 old crop; 8 head, 130 lbs., 111.50; 9 head, 167 lbs., 83.00 old crop.

Slaughter ewes: Good and Choice 2 to 3, 6 head, 129 lbs., 47.00 . Good 2 to 3, 13 head, 147 to 158 lbs., 27.00 to 30.00 (28.58). Utility and Good 1 to 3, 17 head, 142 to 149 lbs., 20.50 to 21.50 (21.16); 168 to 193 lbs., 23.00 to 25.00 (24.20); 6 head, 202 lbs., 21.00. Utility 1 to 2, 6 head, 152 lbs., 16.00. Cull and Utility 1 to 2, 13 head, 150 lbs., 16.00. Cull 1, 123 to 131 lbs., 7.00 to 10.00 (9.14).

Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 9 head, 54 lbs. ,111.50; 12 head, 66 lbs., 110.00 ewe lambs; 18 head, 75 lbs., 109.00; 12 head, 81 lbs., 105.00; 10 head, 87 lbs., 100.00 old crop; 90 to 99 lbs., 110.50 to 114.75 (113.23); 14 head, 98 lbs., 105.00 buck lambs. Medium and large frame 2, 13 head, 43 to 44 lbs., 104.00 to 105.00 (104.54); 10 head, 69 lbs., 90.00 buck lambs; 45 head, 88 lbs., 96.00; 19 head, 96 lbs., 81.50 old crop.

Slaughter nannies/does: Selection 2 to 3, 14 head, 87 to 96 lbs., 44.00 to 46.50 (45.13); 20 head, 138 to 148 lbs., 42.50 to 44.00 (42.71).

Feeder kids: Selection 1, 19 head, 53 lbs., 119.00. Selection 2, 9 head, 52 lbs., 111.00. Selection 3, 8 head, 38 lbs., 98.00.

Feeder yearlings: Selection 2, 7 head, 69 lbs., 86.00.
