Seven projects get grants to improve water quality

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP)--State environmental officials say seven projects are expected to be awarded about $5.4 million in grants to improve water quality in Iowa's lakes and streams.

Iowa Department of Natural Resources Director Richard Leopold says much progress has been made to improve the state's water quality, but there's still more work to do.

He says the grants will help communities build upon what has already been accomplished.

The DNR, Iowa Department of Agriculture, USDA and local Soil and Water Conservation Districts have partnered to offer the grants.

The water quality improvement projects are slated for Tama, Fayette, Poweshiek, Clinton, Shelby, Appanoose and Audubon counties.
