Moderate to active trading in KansasIn Kansas, the hay trade is moderate to active. Demand is strong for dairy alfalfa, moderate to strong for grinding alfalfa, moderate for alfalfa pellets, prairie hay and stock cow quality hay. Rain and hail damaged hay for producers again this past week. Tornadoes damaged or destroyed hay barns and scattered debris across hay fields. The brome is ready to cut when the weather will allow, according to the Kansas Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, June 17. Prices given on a per-ton basis, unless otherwise noted. Southwest: Dairy alfalfa steady to firm, grinding alfalfa $5 higher. Movement: Ground alfalfa moderate, dairy alfalfa active. Horse alfalfa, in small squares, $180-$200; supreme dairy, $175-$200; premium, $170-$185; good, $135-$170. Utility/fair grinding alfalfa, edge of the field, $120-$135. Ground and delivered locally to feedlots and dairies, $135-$155. For the week ending June 7, 12,993 tons of grinding alfalfa and 3,586 tons of dairy alfalfa were delivered. South central: Dairy and grinding alfalfa and alfalfa pellets steady. Movement moderate. Horse alfalfa: Horse, in small squares, $150-$200, in medium or large squares, $185; supreme dairy, $170-$195; premium, $160-$180; good, $125-$170. Utility/fair grinding alfalfa, edge of the field, $90-$110, $100-$115 delivered. Ground and delivered locally to feedlots, $105-$130. For the week ending June 7, 3,378 tons of grinding alfalfa and 916 tons of dairy alfalfa were delivered. Sun-cured alfalfa pellets, 15% protein, $155-$168; 17% protein, $160-$190; dehydrated, 15% protein, $200, 17% protein, $220. Southeast: Alfalfa, brome and prairie hay steady. Movement slow to moderate. Horse and goat alfalfa, in small squares, $145-$190, in medium squares, $220. Supreme dairy alfalfa, $155-$185; premium, $145-$175; good, $130-$140, some 80 cents to 1/point RFV. Good bluestem, in small squares, $100-$110, in medium and large squares, $80-$90, in large rounds, $45-$60. Good brome, in small squares, $90-$110, in medium and large squares, $85-$100, in large rounds, $50-$60; fair, in large rounds, $35-$45. Northwest: Dairy/grinding alfalfa steady. Movement slow to moderate. Horse alfalfa, old crop, in small squares, $180-$200, in medium squares, $160-$175; supreme dairy, no trade; premium, no trade. Utility/fair grinding alfalfa, edge of the field, $90-$100; ground and delivered to feedlots and dairies, $120-$140. North central/northeast: Dairy/grinding alfalfa, prairie hay and brome steady. Movement moderate. Horse alfalfa, in small squares, $185-$200, in medium squares, $165-$185; supreme dairy, $170-$200; premium, $150-$170. Alfalfa-wheat mix, in large squares, $150. Utility/fair grinding alfalfa, edge of the field, $70-$80, ground on truck, $80-$100. Good bluestem grass hay, in small squares, $90-$100, in medium squares, $75-$90, in large rounds, $45-$60.
