Wyobraska cattle sales reportThe combined sales volume of Wyoming, western Nebraska, and western North and South Dakota auctions for the week ending May 24, totaled 3,275 head, compared to 2,600 head last week and 1,950 head last year, according to the USDA-Wyoming Department of Agriculture Market News, Torrington, Wyo. Compared to last week at Wyoming auctions, feeder steers and heifers were not well tested, a few heifers over 600 pounds sold steady, instances were $1 to $3 higher. Demand was moderate to good. Direct trading is slow this week with no comparison available. Demand was moderate to light. Buyer inquiry is light to moderate on light offerings. Unless otherwise noted direct prices are current FOB with a 2 to 3% shrink or equivalent and with a 5 to 10 cent from base weight. Steers made up approximately 41% of the supply, heifers 59%, with 89% over 600 pounds. Direct sales accounted for 1130 head of the total receipts.
