World Pork Expo visitors encouraged to register onlineThe National Pork Producers Council will present the 20th annual World Pork Expo on June 5 to 7, at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines. This year NPPC is registering all guests as they come in the gates and has developed an easy online preregistration system producers can use to make the process smooth. "We want to encourage everyone planning to attend World Pork Expo to register online at www.worldpork.org," Black says. "When you register, your name tag serves as your admission pass for all three days of the show, so if you've pre-registered online, you can just pick up your name tags and head on into the show. Producers can even have their name tags sent to them in advance, so they can just come right in the gate." Full information about the registration process is posted at www.worldpork.org. All visitors will enter the fairgrounds at Gate 15, located at the intersection of University Avenue and 33rd Street on the east side of Des Moines. The first stop will be the new Animal Learning Center to pick up name tags if they've pre-registered or to register if they have not. The name tag serves as the visitor's admission ticket for all three days of the show. "This is something we've needed to do for some time now," Black says. "Sure, it might take an extra minute or two to fill out the registration, but we'll have staff available to help make the process smooth. The big benefit is that it makes just one quick stop when you first arrive at World Pork Expo rather than having to have a ticket and wait in line at the gate every time you come into the show." This process has been used very successfully at state pork producer events such as the Iowa Pork Congress. Once into the fairgrounds, producers can enjoy all the usual education, education, business networking experiences--and food--they've come to expect each year from World Pork Expo. The 20th Anniversary World Pork Expo events will include: --Marketing Information Center; --Environmental Information Center; --Educational Seminars; --Employee Care Center; --Farm Toy Show and Sale; --Breed Shows and Sales; --Daily Lunch at the Big Grill; --World Pork Open Golf Tournament; --World Pork Open Sporting Clay Championship; --And much more. Pork producers are encouraged to make a point of staying around for the evening events June 6, featuring musical entertainment presented street-dance style on the Grand Concourse. The entertainment will begin at 3:30 p.m., with the Street Band, a rock cover band from Webster City, Iowa, followed by country favorites, Highway 101 with special guest, Sweethearts of the Rodeo, and wrapping up with headliners, the Broadway Beatles Tribute. "This is a very special World Pork Expo," Black says. "Today's economic situation is challenging, but World Pork Expo brings producers the chance to learn about the science, products and partnerships that will help weather these short-term pressures and, over the long term, have a positive impact on the next 20 years of their business and the industry as a whole." The latest information on entertainment, educational seminars, sponsorship opportunities and more is available online at www.worldpork.org. NPPC is the global voice for the U.S. pork industry, fighting for reasonable legislation and regulations, developing revenue and market opportunities and protecting producers' livelihoods.
