OKC West livestock sales report

The OKC West Livestock Market Inc., El Reno, Okla., reported receipts of 5,809 head May 28, compared to 7,457 head last week and 4,461 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers were $1 to $3 higher. Demand was very good for feeder cattle. Steer and heifer calves were steady to $3 higher, most advance on new crop calves. Demand was good for calves with a big improvement on new crops. Several local cattle but many loads of feeder cattle available out of north Texas. Feeder cattle were in medium to fleshy conditions. Weigh-ups were average to full, few gaunt. Several days of spring storms across the state as warm, and humid conditions persisted. Wheat harvest is expected to get under way in the next 10 days or so. The supply included 89% over 600 pounds, 6% under 600 pounds, 5% cows and bulls. The total consisted of 30% heifers. Slaughter cows were $1 to $2.50 lower. Slaughter bulls were steady. Packer demand was good at lower levels. A total of 306 cows and bulls sold with 63% going to packers.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 450 to 500 lbs., 128.00 to 139.00; 500 to 550 lbs., 123.50 to 127.50; 550 to 600 lbs., 117.00 to 124.00; 600 to 650 lb. calves 110.00 to 116.50; 600 to 700 lb. yearlings 115.00 to 118.50; 700 to 750 lbs., 112.75 to 114.50; 750 to 800 lbs., 109.25 to 112.00; 800 to 850 lbs., 106.50 to 110.00; 850 to 900 lbs., 103.00 to 107.50; 900 to 950 lbs., 100.00 to 104.25; 985 to 1050 lbs., 96.25 to 99.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 600 to 700 lbs., 108.00 to 113.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 110.00 to 112.75; 800 to 900 lbs., 103.00 to 108.75; 900 to 985 lbs., 95.00 to 102.50. Medium and large frame 2, 350 lbs., thin 130.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 103.00 to 111.50; 800 to 885 lbs., 100.00 to 105.00; 900 to 925 lbs., 100.50 to 102.25; 1000 to 1050 lbs., 95.00.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 375 to 400 lbs., 119.00 to 121.00; 450 to 500 lbs., mostly new crops 107.00 to 115.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 110.00 to 115.00, new crops 107.00 to 109.00; 600 to 650 lbs., 106.75 to 110.50; 650 to 700 lbs., 104.50 to 106.25; 700 to 750 lbs., 103.50 to 105.25; 750 to 800 lbs., few 101.25 to 103.00, 785 lbs., fleshy 99.50; 800 to 875 lbs., 98.00 to 102.75; 900 to 925 lbs., 97.25 to 100.75. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 525 lbs., 111.00; 600 to 650 lbs., 103.00 to 108.50; 700 to 800 lbs., 101.25 to 104.00. Boners, 46 head, 80 to 85% lean, 1050 to 1625 lbs., 55.00 to 58.00; high dressing, 58.50 to 66.50; low dressing, 51.00 to 52.50. Lean, 50 head, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1325 lbs., 52.50 to 56.00; high dressing, 57.50 to 60.00; low dressing, 46.00 to 50.50. Lights, 23 head, 80 to 90% lean, 725 to 975 lbs., 49.00 to 52.50; high dressing, 58.00; low dressing, 46.00 to 47.50; very low dressing, 36.00 to 41.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 24 head, 1300 to 2300 lbs., 69.50 to 73.50; high dressing, 74.00; low dressing, 65.00 to 68.50; very high, 81.50 to 82.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 1 to 3 years old, 750 to 800 lbs., 3 to 4 months bred, average blacks, 720.00 to 770.00; 3 to 6 years old, 950 to 1350 lbs., 2 to 7 months bred, high blacks, 900.00 to 960.00; 4 to 8 years old, 1100 to 1350 lbs., 6 to 8 months bred, average blacks, 820.00 to 920.00; 5 to 8 years old, 1000 to 1150 lbs., 2 to 6 months bred, low to average quality, 550.00 to 660.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 3 to 4 years old, 900 to 1050 lbs., with 125- to 175-lb. calves, average blacks, 1120.00 to 1150.00.
