Ft. Smith cattle sales report

The Ft. Smith Livestock Auction, Fort Smith, Ark., reported receipts of 784 head, May 19, compared to 807 last week and 782 last year, according to the Arkansas Extension Service-USDA Market News, Little Rock, Ark.

Compared to last week slaughter cows were $2 higher. Slaughter bulls were $3 higher. Feeder steers and heifers were steady to $4 higher. The supply included 368 feeder calves; 230 feeder yearlings; 52 replacement cows; 118 slaughter cows; 15 slaughter bulls; and 1 replacement bull. The feeder supply consisted of about 40 percent English breed and English crosses; 30 percent exotic breed and exotic crosses; 30 percent Brahma and Brahma crosses; and 0 percent Holsteins and other dairy breeds. The feeder supply was about 60 percent steers and bulls with 40 percent heifers.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 49.00 to 53.50; high dressing, 54.00 to 58.50. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 44.00 to 48.50; high dressing, 49.00 to 53.50; low dressing, 39.00 to 43.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 53.00 to 57.50; high dressing, 58.00 to 62.50; low dressing, 48.00 to 52.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield Grade 1 and 2, 1000 to 2100 lbs., 69.00 to 73.50; high dressing, 74.00 to 78.50; low dressing, 64.00 to 68.50.
