Amarillo livestock salesThe Amarillo Livestock Auction summary, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 1,031 head May 20, compared to 681 last week and 939 last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News, Amarillo, Texas. Compared to last week feeder steers under 800 pounds were steady and over 800 pounds were steady to $1 higher. Heifers were steady to $2 higher, except those at 600 to 700 pounds were $2 to $3 higher. Slaughter cows were steady. Slaughter bulls were steady to weak on limited test. The bulk of the supply were medium and large frame 1 and 2, 400- to 900-pound feeder steers and heifers. Trade and demand were moderate to good. Slaughter cows made up 5 percent of the offering, slaughter bulls 2 percent, replacement cows 6 percent and feeders 82 percent. The feeder supply included 67 percent steers and 33 percent heifers. Nearly 77 percent of the run weighed more than 600 pounds.
