Amarillo livestock sales

The Amarillo Livestock Auction summary, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 1,031 head May 20, compared to 681 last week and 939 last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week feeder steers under 800 pounds were steady and over 800 pounds were steady to $1 higher. Heifers were steady to $2 higher, except those at 600 to 700 pounds were $2 to $3 higher. Slaughter cows were steady. Slaughter bulls were steady to weak on limited test. The bulk of the supply were medium and large frame 1 and 2, 400- to 900-pound feeder steers and heifers. Trade and demand were moderate to good. Slaughter cows made up 5 percent of the offering, slaughter bulls 2 percent, replacement cows 6 percent and feeders 82 percent. The feeder supply included 67 percent steers and 33 percent heifers. Nearly 77 percent of the run weighed more than 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, pkg 338 lbs., 138.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 116.50 to 120.00; 560 to 600 lbs., 113.00 to 117.50; pkg 653 lbs., 107.00; 800 to 900 lbs., 103.25 to 106.00; load 979 lbs., 97.50. Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 300 to 400 lbs., 121.00 to 130.00; pkg 540 lbs., 105.00; lot 809 lbs., 105.25. Medium and large frame 2 and 3, pkg 328 lbs., 108.00; pkg 533 lbs., 95.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 300 to 400 lbs., 108.00 to 113.00; pkg 433 lbs., 109.00; 500 to 550 lbs., 107.00 to 108.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 102.25 to 105.50; load 792 lbs., 97.30; pkg 802 lbs., 95.50. Medium and large frame 1 and 2, pkg 395 lbs., 109.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 105.00 to 112.00, lot 523 lbs., fleshy 98.00; pkg 623 lbs., 102.00.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80 percent lean, 1200 to 1600 lbs., 53.00 to 56.00; low dressing, 50.00 to 51.50. Boners, 80 to 85 percent lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 56.00 to 58.00; high dressing, 60.00 to 61.00; low dressing, 52.50. Lean, 85 to 90 percent lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 52.00 to 55.00; high dressing, 58.00; 800 to 1000 lbs., 47.00 to 50.00; low dressing, 43.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield Grade 1 and 2, 1300 to 1900 lbs., 64.00 to 67.50; high dressing, 1400 to 1900 lbs., 71.50; low dressing, 1100 to 1500 lbs., 60.50 to 63.00.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 and 2, young to middle-aged, 820 to 1250 lbs., 2 to 8 months bred, 700.00 to 800.00 per head; middle-aged to aged, 910 to 1125 lbs., 6 to 8 months bred, 590.00 to 650.00 per head.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1, young, 1100 lbs., with 500-lb. calf, 1125.00 per pair; middle-aged, 1100 to 1300 lbs., with 200- to 350-lb. calves, 820.00 to 900.00 per pair. Medium and large frame 1 and 2, young 800 to 950 lbs., with 100- to 300-lb. calves, 710.00 to 730.00 per pair; middle-aged, 850 to 1200 lbs., with 75- to 400-lb. calves, 570.00 to 760.00 per pair.
