USDA Rural Development to host local program meetings

Stafford, Pratt, and Kinsley presentations scheduled

Kansas

USDA Rural Development State Director Chuck Banks announced May 29 that the Agency will host three program informational meetings during the month of June to help assist Kansans in the region. The presentations, to be held in Stafford, Pratt and Kinsley, will cover USDA Rural Development programs available to promote affordable housing, along with supporting community and business development.

"USDA Rural Development of Kansas has recognized significant community and economic development opportunities present in this part of Kansas, along with addressing needs resulting from the 2007 and 2008 storms. USDA Rural Development's programs provide an excellent opportunity for communities to expand affordable housing opportunities and job opportunities, along with enhancing local infrastructure. Whether it be improving local housing or upgrading community projects, such as health care services, USDA Rural Development is positioned to assist in these important Kansas economic development goals," commented State Director Banks.

The three USDA Rural Development informational meetings, which will cover both the Agency's affordable housing programs and business/community development programs, will be held:

--Stafford, June 18: 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Ritz Theatre, 116 South Main, Stafford;

--Pratt, June 19: 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Pratt Community College (Room 23), 348 NE State Road 6, Pratt;

--Kinsley, June 26: 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Edwards County Fair Building, 1305 South Niles, Kinsley.

Kansans who are interested in general programming opportunities, or others who might have been impacted by the 2007 or 2008 storms, are encouraged to attend one of these informational meetings.

USDA Rural Development's mission is to deliver programs that support increasing economic opportunities and enhancing the quality of life for rural Americans. USDA Rural Development provides equity and technical assistance to finance and foster growth in homeownership, business development, and critical community and technology infrastructure in rural America. Since 2001, USDA Rural Development has delivered over $1.2 billion for Kansas covering all Agency programs, supporting well over $6 billion in future economic development for the Sunflower State.

For additional information regarding USDA Rural Development programs, interested parties may call the Agency's state headquarters at 785-271-2700 or log onto the state's USDA Rural Development website at: www.rurdev.usda.gov/ks.
