Sioux Falls sheep sales report

The Sioux Falls sheep auction, Sioux Falls, S.D., reported receipts of 809 head June 10, compared to 1,218 head last week and 1,085 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, wooled slaughter lambs sold steady. Feeder lambs sold $1 to $2 higher on a light test. Slaughter ewes were too few in most categories to make an accurate comparison, but, following the demand in other auctions, prices paid displayed a definite lower undertone. Buyer attendance was moderate with good to very good demand for slaughter lambs and feeder lambs but only light to moderate for slaughter ewes. Receipts included about 50% slaughter lambs, 26% slaughter ewes, 17% feeder lambs and the balance was mostly bucks.

Slaughter lambs: Wooled, Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 130 to 140 lbs., 115.00 to 116.75 (116.40); 35 head, 155 lbs., 117.50. Wooled, Choice 2 to 3, 97 to 104 lbs., 110.00 to 120.00 (116.42); 112 to 116 lbs., 110.50 to 115.00 (112.63).

Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 4, 8 head, 209 lbs., 22.00. Good 3 to 4, 9 head, 185 lbs., 20.00. Utility and Good 1 to 3, 10 head, 176 lbs., 21.00. Utility 1 to 2, 170 to 183 lbs., 12.00 to 16.00 (13.10). Cull and Utility 1 to 2, 152 to 154 lbs., 5.00 to 7.00 6.62). Cull 1, 116 to 142 lbs., 5.00 to 8.00 6.84).

Feeder lambs: Medium and Large 1 to 2, 5 head, 33 lbs., 125.00; 43 head, 49 lbs., 116.00 to 120.00 (119.16); 53 to 54 lbs., 118.00 to 118.25 (118.22); 17 head, 63 lbs., 112.00. Medium and large frame 2, 41 to 47 lbs., 109.00 to 110.00 (109.53); 76 to 78 lbs., 108.50.

Slaughter kids: Selection 1, 9 head, 48 lbs., 126.00
