McAlester livestock auction report

The McAlester Union Livestock Market, McAlester, Okla., reported receipts of 1,145 head June 10, compared to 2,489 head last week and 1,800 head last year, according to the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, stocker and feeder cattle were steady. Heavy rainfall in the area limited movement of livestock. There was a good attendance of buyers, with moderate demand for fleshy new crop calves, and good for feeders. Cattle were in thin to fleshy condition. Receipts included 48% steers, 35% heifers, 18% bulls with 24% cattle over 600 pounds. Slaughter cows and bulls were firm with last week's trade. There was a very limited supply of bred cows and pairs. A total of 185 cows and bulls sold with 55% to packers.

Boners, 28 head, 80 to 85% lean, 1025 to 1525 lbs., 55.00 to 58.50; high dressing, 60.00 to 61.50; low dressing, 52.00 to 55.50. Lean, 16 head, 85 to 90% lean, 975 to 1275 lbs., 53.00 to 56.50; low dressing, 49.00 to 52.50. Light, 22 head, 85 to 90% lean, 700 to 1000 lbs., 47.00 to 50.50; high dressing, 53.50 to 56.00; low dressing, 42.50 to 46.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 18 head, 1320 to 1900 lbs., 67.50 to 70.50; high dressing, 73.00 to 78.00; low dressing, 62.00 to 66.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 2 years old, 950 to 1090 lbs., 6 to 8 months bred, average quality, 760.00 to 810.00; 6 to 7 years old, 1090 to 1325 lbs., 4 to 7 months bred, average quality, 750.00 to 840.00.
