Ft. Smith livestock sales report

The Ft. Smith Livestock Auction, Ft. Smith, Ark., reported receipts of 836 head June 9, compared to 911 head last week and 844 head last year, according to the Arkansas Extension Service-USDA Market News, Little Rock, Ark.

Compared to last week, slaughter cows and bulls were mostly steady. Feeder steers and heifers were $2 to $4 lower, with instances of even lower. The supply included 443 feeder calves, 300 feeder yearlings, 8 replacement cows, 76 slaughter cows, 8 slaughter bulls, and 1 replacement bull. The feeder supply consisted of about 40% English breed and English crosses, 30% exotic breed and exotic crosses, 28% Brahman and Brahman crosses, and 2% Holsteins and other dairy breeds. The feeder supply included about 60% steers and bulls with 40% heifers. Prices follow with weighted average price in parenthesis.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 47.00 to 53.50; high dressing, 54.00 to 58.50. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 43.00 to 47.50; high dressing, 48.00 to 52.50; low dressing, 38.00 to 42.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 53.00 to 57.50; high dressing, 58.00 to 62.00; low dressing, 48.00 to 52.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1000 to 2100 lbs., 63.00 to 67.50; high dressing, 68.00 to 73.50; low dressing, 58.00 to 62.50.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 405 to 440 lbs., 117.00 to 126.00 (122.67); 450 to 485 lbs., 114.00 to 121.00 (115.09); 500 to 540 lbs., 105.00 to 111.00 (106.43); 550 to 595 lbs., 105.00 to 113.00 (107.60); 600 to 630 lbs., 100.00 to 108.00 (106.13); 655 to 675 lbs., 100.00 to 105.00 (102.21); 701 to 705 lbs., 96.00 to 103.00 (102.12); 799 lbs., 91.00; 815 to 830 lbs., 89.00 to 90.00 (89.50); 850 to 880 lbs., 68.00 to 94.50 (82.37).
