Farm Bureau selects Friends of Agriculture for 2008 primariesOrganization encourages voters to consider designations during June primaries Iowa Five legislative candidates have been designated "Friends of Agriculture" by the Iowa Farm Bureau Political Action Committee. U.S. Rep. Leonard Boswell (D) of Des Moines, Iowa; Rep. Geri Huser (D) of Altoona, Iowa; Rep. Jim Van Engelenhoven (R) of Pella; Tim Kapucian (R) of Keystone; and Erik Helland (R) of Grimes have been recognized by the PAC for their support of agriculture. "This primary race is important to our members," said Jim Neel, PAC Committee Chair. "Our designation is only given when a candidate exhibits a clear understanding and record of support for Farm Bureau policy issues. We look forward to working with candidates who bring this type of understanding and experience to the campaign." The designation of these candidates starts with county Farm Bureau candidate evaluation committees. The nine farmers who are members of the state PAC committee review the county evaluations, while also considering candidate positions and past voting records on issues important to Farm Bureau members and agriculture. The committee encourages voters to consider "Friends of Agriculture" when evaluating their choices for the June 3 primaries.
