Colorado FSA announces emergency loan availabilityColorado Colorado FSA State Executive Director Lewis Frank June 5 announced the availability of low-interest emergency loans in counties impacted by severe storms and tornadoes that occurred in northern Colorado on May 22. The loans are authorized by a Presidential Major Disaster Declaration which names both Larimer and Weld counties major disaster areas. Seven more Colorado counties are named as contiguous disaster areas including Adams, Boulder, Broomfield, Grand, Jackson, Logan and Morgan counties. Eligible family farm and ranch operators may apply for an FSA emergency loan through Jan. 26, 2009. FSA emergency loans authorized by presidential declaration can be used to help producers recover from both production and physical agricultural losses due to a natural disaster. FSA emergency loans for production losses may be used to buy feed, seed, fertilizer, livestock or to refinance certain debts. Emergency loans for physical losses may be used to repair or replace property damaged or lost during the disaster event. "These low-interest loans can help Colorado family farmers with qualifying losses begin recovery from the damage the storms and tornadoes caused to their operations," Frank said. Eligible owners and operators of family-sized operations can apply for an emergency loan at their local USDA Service Center. FSA considers each loan application on its own merits, taking into account the extent of losses, security available, and repayment ability. FSA ensures the well-being of American agriculture, the environment and the American public through efficient and equitable administration of numerous farm programs. FSA's farm programs include commodity programs, farm ownership, operating and emergency loans, conservation and environmental programs, emergency and disaster assistance, domestic and international food assistance and international export credit programs. 6/16/08 Date: 6/11/08
