Annual Eagle Lake Field Day set for June 24

Texas

"Harvesting the Future" is the theme for the annual field day June 24 at the David R. Wintermann Rice Research Station, three miles northwest of Eagle Lake on Farm-to-Market Road 102.

The event is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Invited speakers include Lowell G. Raun of Lowell Farms, who will talk about the farm bill, and Dr. John Miller of Southwest Agribusiness Consulting Inc., who will discuss the rice outlook.

Research-related tours at the facility will address hybrid evaluation and comparison to conventional varieties, phosphorus and potassium rates, varietal improvement, conventional rice breeding, high-yielding water-efficient rice, conventional rice cultivars, seed treatment insecticides and a general insect pest update.

For more information, contact Coleen Meitzen at the Texas AgriLife Research and Extension Center at Eagle Lake at 979-234-3578, cmeitzen@elc.netcmeitzen@elc.net.
