West Plains cattle salesThe West Plains Regional Stockyard, West Plains, Mo., reported receipts of 2,266 head July 1, compared to 4,027 head last week, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo. Compared to last week, steer calves sold steady to mostly $2 lower, steer yearlings were firm to mostly $2 higher. Heifer calves sold $3 to $5 lower, yearling heifers were steady to $2 higher. The supply was light, and quality was not as attractive as the previous sale. Buyers were cautious this week on calves, especially those of lesser quality, fleshy, conditions, un-weaned and un-vaccinated, but it was most obvious in the heifer calf trade. The supply consisted of 67% steers and 33% heifers, with nearly 63% over 600 pounds. Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 400 to 500 lbs., 112.50 to 121.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 112.50 to 117.00, fleshy 103.00 to 106.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 108.50 to 113.50, soft to calves 104.00 to 105.00; package calves 741 lbs., 100.00, lot yearling 795 lbs., 108.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 300 to 400 lbs., 110.00 to 127.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 105.00 to 112.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 108.00 to 114.00; 600 to 650 lbs., 107.50 to 108.00, package thin 112.00; few 650 to 700 lbs., calves 97.00 to 100.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 104.00 to 110.50, string 251 head, 791 lbs., green 110.50, few packages fleshy 700 to 850 lbs., 98.00 to 100.50; load 63 head, 918 lbs., 102.25.
