Sioux Falls sheep sales report

The Sioux Falls sheep auction, Sioux Falls, S.D., reported receipts of 992 head July 1, compared to 1,062 head last week and 786 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, slaughter lambs sold $1 to $2 lower. Feeder lambs sold steady to weak on a light test. Slaughter ewes were too few last week for an accurate comparison, however a steady undertone was noted. Receipts included about 55% slaughter lambs, 27% feeder lambs, 15% slaughter ewes and the balance was mostly bucks. Buyers and sellers talking about the high cost of feeding any type of animals.

Slaughter lambs: Shorn Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 62 head, 139 lbs., 115.50. Shorn Choice 2 to 3, 7 head, 109 lbs., 100.00; 16 head, 113 lbs., 108.00. Wooled, Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 120 to 125 lbs., 114.00 to 115.00 (114.99); 130 to 147 lbs., 114.00 to 115.50 (114.32); 40 head, 151 lbs., 115.50. Wooled, Choice 2 to 3, 18 head, 116 to 128 lbs., 111.00 to 111.50 (111.12); 5 head, 131 lbs., 109.25.

Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 14 head, 156 to 158 lbs., 23.75 to 25.50 (24.25); 17 head, 170 to 182 lbs., 23.25 to 28.00 (25.35). Utility and Good 1 to 3, 18 head, 184 lbs., 21.00. Utility 1 to 2, 137 to 149 lbs., 15.00 to 16.75 (16.45); 19 head, 173 lbs., 11.00 full. Cull 1, 136 to 148 lbs., 7.00 to 11.50 (9.57).

Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 10 head, 82 lbs., 101.50; 95 to 99 lbs., 100.25 to 107.50 (106.28); 29 head, 90 lbs., 98.75 fleshy. Medium and large frame 2, 53 to 54 lbs., 106.00 to 107.00 (106.41); 62 to 68 lbs., 99.25 to 100.00 (99.77); 10 head, 77 lbs., 102.50; 5 head, 85 lbs., 91.00. Small frame 1 to 2, 11 head, 45 lbs., 82.00.

Slaughter kids: Selection 1 to 2, 15 head, 42 lbs., 88.00.

Slaughter nannies/does: Selection 1 to 2, 12 head, 107 lbs., 33.00. Selection 2 to 3, 5 head, 106 lbs., 26.00 aged.
