McAlester livestock market reportThe McAlester Union Livestock Market, McAlester, Okla., reported receipts of 1,210 head July 1, compared to 2,015 head last week, according to the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla. Compared to last week, feeder cattle and calves were steady. There were light numbers with many ranchers in the hay fields. There was a good attendance of buyers and active trade. Cattle were in thin to fleshy condition with many new-crop calves in the yards. Receipts included 34% steers, 39% heifers, 26% bulls with 24% over 600 pounds. Slaughter cows and bulls sold firm compared to last week. A total of 205 head sold with 66% going to packers.
