McAlester livestock market report

The McAlester Union Livestock Market, McAlester, Okla., reported receipts of 1,210 head July 1, compared to 2,015 head last week, according to the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, feeder cattle and calves were steady. There were light numbers with many ranchers in the hay fields. There was a good attendance of buyers and active trade. Cattle were in thin to fleshy condition with many new-crop calves in the yards. Receipts included 34% steers, 39% heifers, 26% bulls with 24% over 600 pounds. Slaughter cows and bulls sold firm compared to last week. A total of 205 head sold with 66% going to packers.

Lean, 18 head, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1300 lbs., 53.00 to 56.50; low dressing, 49.00 to 52.50. Light, 40 head, 75 to 90% lean, 700 to 1000 lbs., 47.00 to 50.50; high dressing, 52.00 to 53.50; low dressing, 42.00 to 46.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 24 head, 1400 to 1850 lbs., 69.00 to 73.00; high dressing, 76.50 to 80.00; low dressing, 66.50 to 68.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 5 to 6 years old, 940 to 1350 lbs., 4 to 7 months bred, average, 750.00 to 840.00.
