Hay trading activeIn Kansas, the hay trade is moderate to active. Demand is strong for dairy alfalfa, moderate to strong for grinding alfalfa, moderate for alfalfa pellets, prairie hay and stock cow quality hay, according to the Kansas Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, June 27. Prices given on a per-ton basis, unless otherwise noted. Southwest: Dairy alfalfa steady, ground alfalfa steady to $5 higher. Movement, ground alfalfa moderate, Dairy alfalfa active. Horse alfalfa, in small squares, $180-$200; supreme dairy, $175-$200; premium, $170-$185; good, $135-$170. Utility/fair grinding alfalfa shipped in or at the edge of the field, $120-$135, $140 for January pickup. Ground and delivered locally to feedlots and dairies, $140-$160. For the week ending June 21, 12,257 tons of grinding alfalfa and 3,238 tons of dairy alfalfa were delivered. Wheat hay, in large bales, $90 delivered. Good straw, in large bales, $45-$55, some, $85 ground and delivered. South central: Dairy/grinding alfalfa and alfalfa pellets are steady. Movement is moderate. Horse alfalfa, in small squares, $185, in medium or large squares, $185; supreme dairy, $170-$195; premium, $160-$180; good, $125-$170. Utility/fair grinding alfalfa, edge of the field, $90-$110, $100-$115 delivered. Ground and delivered locally to feedlots, $105-$130. For the week ending June 21, 3,339 tons of grinding alfalfa and 1,194 tons of dairy alfalfa were delivered. Sun-cured alfalfa pellets, 15% protein, $160-$168; 17% protein, $170-$190; dehydrated, 15% protein, $200; 17% protein, $220. Good straw, in large bales, $55. Southeast: Alfalfa, brome and prairie hay steady. Movement slow to moderate. Horse and goat alfalfa, in small squares, $145-$190, in medium squares, $220. Supreme dairy alfalfa, $155-$185; premium, $145-$175; good, $130-$140, some 80 cents to 1/point RFV. Good bluestem, in small squares, $100-$110, in medium and large squares, $80-$90, in large rounds, $45-$60. Good brome, in small squares, $100-$110, in medium and large squares, $90-$100, in large rounds, $50-$60; fair, in large rounds, $35-$45. Northwest: Dairy/grinding alfalfa steady. Movement moderate. Premium/supreme dairy alfalfa, $175-$185; good, $165. Utility/fair grinding alfalfa, edge of the field, $90-$100; ground and delivered to feedlots and dairies, $120-$140. North central/northeast: Dairy/grinding alfalfa, prairie hay and brome steady. Movement moderate. Horse alfalfa, in small squares, $185-$200, in medium squares, $165-$185; supreme dairy, $170-$200; premium, $140-$170. Utility/fair grinding alfalfa, edge of the field, $70-$80, ground on truck, $80-$100. Good bluestem grass hay, in small squares, $90-$100, in medium squares, $75-$90, in large rounds, $45-$60.
