Grain Sorghum Board seeks to fill vacancies

Nebraska

The Nebraska Grain Sorghum Development, Utilization and Marketing Board announces that after July 17, two vacancies will exist on the board to represent District #1, which includes the counties of Gage, Johnson, Nemaha, Pawnee and Richardson; and District #6, which includes the counties of Adams, Chase, Dundy, Franklin, Frontier, Furnas, Gosper, Harlan, Hayes, Hitchcock, Kearney, Phelps, Red Willow, Webster, and 21 other western Nebraska counties. A sorghum producer will be appointed by the Board to fill each vacancy at their next public meeting to be held in July 31 in Lincoln, Neb.

Qualified grain sorghum producers wishing to be considered for nomination to fill the vacancies may submit a statement of interest to the Board. The statement may be in the form of a letter or resume outlining the candidate's qualifications and declaring interest in serving on the Board. Qualified candidates residing in the above-outlined counties will be eligible for appointment to each respective district. Qualifications also include those who are citizens of Nebraska, are 21 years of age, have been actually engaged in growing sorghum in Nebraska for a period of at least five years, and derive a substantial portion of their income from growing grain sorghum.

Statements of interest may be submitted electronically at sorghum.board@nebraska.gov or by writing to the Nebraska Grain Sorghum Board, P.O. Box 94982, Lincoln, Neb., 68509. Interested candidates will be provided an opportunity to meet with the Board prior to the appointment. The Board reserves the right to make nominations from the floor to fill the vacancies.

For more information contact the office of the Sorghum Board at 402-471-4276.

The Nebraska Grain Sorghum Board administers the one-cent per hundredweight checkoff on sorghum sold in the state. The Board's funds are invested in programs of market development, research, education, and federal legislation representation.
