Center for Beef Excellence seeks executive director

The newly-formed Pennsylvania Center for Beef Excellence is conducting a national search for a beef industry leader to serve as the organization's first executive director, supporting the growth of the state's 28,000 beef producers and $2 billion beef industry.

Initiated in 2007, the beef center is a non-profit organization based in Harrisburg, guided by producers and industry representatives to help grow the industry through education, promotion and economic development efforts.

"The Center for Beef Excellence is providing an exciting opportunity to support Pennsylvania's exceptional beef industry," said Richard Lehman, chairman of the executive director search committee. "We are seeking a leader well-equipped and prepared to drive educational and economic development efforts that will support our state's beef industry, helping to strengthen the economy and provide consumers with high-quality and safe products."

The new executive director will manage the center's daily business and serve as the liaison to the Pennsylvania Beef Task Force and Department of Agriculture.

Responsibilities will include discovering resources to enhance on-farm profit opportunities, working with the beef industry to establish common goals, providing support to the agriculture department's beef services and programs, directing beef marketing activities, procuring grant funding to support beef programs, and communicating with the non-farm public to develop a better understanding of the beef industry.

The center is seeking beef industry leaders that hold a bachelor's degree and possess exceptional leadership, organizational, networking, multitasking and oral and written communication skills. Applicants must have significant beef industry knowledge and a minimum of 10 years experience in the agricultural industry.

Cover letter, resume and references should be e-mailed or postmarked by July 18 to Mike Pechart at mpechart@state.pa.us, or by standard mail to Richard Lehman, Chairman, Executive Director Search Committee, Pennsylvania Center for Beef Excellence, 2301 N. Cameron St., Room 211, Harrisburg, Pa. 17110.

Questions regarding employment may be directed to Lehman at 724-356-2232. For more information about the Beef Task Force and the Center for Beef Excellence, contact Mike Pechart at 717-705-2122 or by e-mail.
