West Plains livestock salesThe Ozarks Regional Stockyard, West Plains, Mo., reported receipts of 3,000 head July 22, compared to 4,142 last week and 3,218 last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo. Compared to last week, steers sold unevenly steady. Heifers at 450 to 700 pounds ere weak to mostly $2 lower, and a limited test under 450 pounds and several over 700 pounds were firm to mostly $2 higher. Supply was light to moderate. Demand was unevenly moderate to good, and best on better quality cattle as buyers seemed more selective and not as aggressive toward the plainer kinds. Quality was not as attractive this week. Feeder cattle futures improved again with continued pressure in the corn pit. There was good buyer attendance. The supply consisted of 54 percent steers and 46 percent heifers. Nearly 58 percent weighed more than 600 pounds.
