OKC West cattle salesOKC West to El Reno Livestock Market, El Reno, Okla., reported receipts of 4,108 head July 23, compared to 6,728 last week and 3,945 last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News Servic,e Oklahoma City, Okla. Compared to last week, feeder steers were steady to $3 higher, with the most advance on 9 weights. Feeder heifers were steady to $2 higher. Demand was very good for feeder cattle, especially the heavier weights. Steer and heifer calves were not well tested. The bulk of the calf sale consisted of fleshy, un-weaned calves, and these sold nearly $10 under their weaned mates. Temperatures reached 100 degrees or more, and farmers were not interested in receiving calves in these conditions. Supply consisted of 83 percent over 600 pounds, 11 percent under 600 pounds, and 6 percent cows and bulls. The total included 28 percent heifers. Slaughter cows and bulls were $1 lower, except Lean cows were $1 to $2 higher. Packer demand was moderate to good with most action from southern buyers. A total of 280 cows and bulls sold with 64 percent going to packers.
