OKC West cattle sales

OKC West to El Reno Livestock Market, El Reno, Okla., reported receipts of 4,108 head July 23, compared to 6,728 last week and 3,945 last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News Servic,e Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, feeder steers were steady to $3 higher, with the most advance on 9 weights. Feeder heifers were steady to $2 higher. Demand was very good for feeder cattle, especially the heavier weights. Steer and heifer calves were not well tested. The bulk of the calf sale consisted of fleshy, un-weaned calves, and these sold nearly $10 under their weaned mates. Temperatures reached 100 degrees or more, and farmers were not interested in receiving calves in these conditions. Supply consisted of 83 percent over 600 pounds, 11 percent under 600 pounds, and 6 percent cows and bulls. The total included 28 percent heifers.

Slaughter cows and bulls were $1 lower, except Lean cows were $1 to $2 higher. Packer demand was moderate to good with most action from southern buyers. A total of 280 cows and bulls sold with 64 percent going to packers.

Yearlings, few 600 to 700 lbs., 114.25 to 116.50; 700 to 775 lbs., 111.00 to 114.75; 800 to 900 lbs., 108.00 to 111.75; 900 to 950 lbs., 108.50 to 111.00; 950 to 1000 lbs., 100.00 to 108.75; 1050 to 1065 lbs., 98.00 to 101.50. Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 650 to 700 lbs., 113.75 to 115.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 107.00 to 114.25; 800 to 900 lbs., 105.50 to 110.50; load 900 lbs., 111.00; few loads 1000 lbs., 97.50. Medium and large frame 2, 500 lbs., 109.00; 675 lbs., 103.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 107.50 to 111.50, 735 lbs., thin 113.00; 800 to 900 lbs., 102.50 to 108.50, 885 lbs., thin 108.75; 900 to 925 lbs., 100.00 to 102.50.

Boners, 56 head, 80 to 85 percent lean, 1050 to 1525 lbs., 53.00 to 56.50; high dressing, 62.00 to 63.50; low dressing, 49.00 to 53.00. Lean, 56 head, 85 to 90 percent lean, 1050 to 1550 lbs., 53.00 to 55.50; high dressing, 57.50 to 61.25; low dressing, 47.00 to 52.50. Lights, 6 head, 80 to 90 percent lean, 950 to 1000 lbs., 53.00; low dressing, 43.50 to 47.00; very low dressing, 41.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield Grade 1 to 2, 11 head, 1275 to 2100 lbs., 70.50 to 73.00; high dressing, 80.00; low dressing, 66.00 to 68.00; very high dressing, 83.50.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 3 to 7 years old, 950 to 1250 lbs., 2 to 5 months bred, average quality, 700.00 to 750.00; 6 years old, 1250 lbs., 7 months bred, average black, 810.00; 8 to 9 years old, 1100 to 1350 lbs., 5 to 7 months bred, average quality, 710.00 to 790.00; 10+ years old, 1000 to 1150 lbs., 2 months bred, average quality, 600.00 to 625.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 5 to 6 years old, 1250 to 1350 lbs., 175 to 350 average quality, 1000.00 to 1100.00; 8 to 10 years old, 1000 to 1150 lbs., 100 to 325 average quality, 760.00 to 880.00.
