McAlester cattle sales report

Union Livestock Market, McAlester, Okla., reported receipts of 2,100 head July 22, compared to 1,675 last week and 2,300 last year, according to the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, stocker and feeder cattle were steady except feeder heifers, which sold $1 to $3 higher. There was a good attendance of buyers and active trade. Cattle were in thin to medium flesh. There were fewer new crop calves in the trade. Receipts included 46 percent steers, 38 percent heifers, 15 percent bulls with 35 percent over 600 pounds. Slaughter cows and bulls were firm with last week's trade. There was a good attendance of buyers and active trade. A total of 250 cows and bulls sold with 65 percent going to packers.

Boners, 70 head, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1400 lbs., 56.00 to 59.50; high dressing, 61.50; low dressing, 52.00 to 55.50. Lean, 39 head, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1300 lbs., 53.00 to 57.00; low dressing, 48.00 to 52.00. Light, 21head, 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 47.50 to 51.00; high dressing, 55.50 to 58.00; low dressing, 43.50 to 47.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield Grade 1 and 2, 15 head, 1150 to 2100 lbs., 71.00 to 74.00; high dressing, 75.00 to 81.00; low dressing, 64.50 to 69.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 2 to 6 years old, 975 to 1400 lbs., 4 to 8 months bred, average quality, 750.00 to 840.00.
