King Ranch symposium offers pre-event cattle handling training

Demo's offer unique methods designed to improve daily livestock work

"Entertaining, educational and informative--just great!" from a Springfield, Ill., beef producer.

"I liked your practical methods which anyone can use--how they save time and money, too. Also, your message about how we cattlemen can help the (beef) industry was very important. One of the top programs I have ever been to." from a Abingdon, Va., cattleman.

These are just two comments from participants who have attended seminars by Stockmanship and Stewardship clinicians Curt Pate, Dr. Ron Gill and Todd McCartney. Everyone who handles livestock will benefit from this unique educational program offered during the King Ranch Institute's Pre-Symposium Training, Oct. 29 and 30 in Kingsville, Texas.

The seminar will be run from 9 a.m., Oct. 29 and 11 a.m., Oct. 30 with a lunch and refreshments provided. Speakers will use cattle and horses to illustrate proven stockmanship methods that benefit everyday livestock work. Renowned Montana horseman, rancher and stockmanship instructor Curt Pate is joined by lifelong cattleman Dr. Ron Gill, Texas A&M Livestock Specialist and cattle handling expert. Third team member is Texas ranch cowboy, Todd McCartney, seasoned presenter on beef industry topics and RFD-TV host.

The event will be held at the King Ranch Arena on the historic King Ranch and will include instruction for improved gathering, penning, chute work, and hauling. Much emphasis will be placed on ways to increase cattle performance by reducing handling stress. Discussions of Beef Industry Stewardship will also be included showing how cattlemen can actually shape consumer's perception of beef. Other topics will cover horsemanship for cattlemen, beneficial chute-side strategies and the many economic, personal and industry benefits of the strategies presented.

"Those who join us for the Stockmanship and Stewardship program will learn how these often forgotten methods and principles can increase profits and actually boost the beef industry," said Todd McCartney, program speaker and segment host for the new RFD-TV show Cattlemen To Cattlemen.

The Stockmanship and Stewardship seminar series is appearing in numerous states across the U.S. in 2008 thanks to the initiative of the National Cattlemen's Beef Association.

Registration for the Stockmanship and Stewardship seminar on Oct. 29 and 30 is only $50 ($25 late fee after Oct. 17) and all livestock owners are invited to attend. Participants will gather at the Texas A&M University-Kingsville campus and shuttled to King Ranch, so please call, 361-593-5401, or visit the King Ranch Institute for Ranch Management's website, http://krirm.tamuk.edu, for registration and meeting details.
