Waynoka FFA particpates in Alumni Leadership Camp

Oklahoma

The Waynoka FFA Chapter was represented at Oklahoma FFA Alumni Leadership camp, July 6 to 9.

Kicking off the first session was inspirational speaker, Bill Cordes, also known as the YOGOWYPI man. He taught us You Only Get Out What You Put In. Some of the most exciting parts of sessions are the beginnings when hot spots occur. During hot spots names are pulled out of a fish bowl, those names who are called go to the front, say there name, the Chapter they are from, what they like to do in the FFA, and then got to do something crazy such as a bull rider move. Waynoka had two picked from the fish bowl, Jonathon Brune and Layne Meriwether.

Throughout the week we had small group sessions. The first day within our small groups we learned about Forming--it's the part of the team-building stage when people begin to learn the identity of their team. The second day we learned about Norming--the stage of team building where people are beginning to realize their role on their team. The third day we learned about the stage of team building, Storming. Storming is where comfort develops within the group and gives rise to the members' willingness to express their opinions. When managed well the team gets to the truth which makes a stronger team. The fourth, and last day we learned about Performing. In this stage team members have a common vision, are not afraid of conflict, and the members embrace opportunities to make the team stronger.

A bright spot in the small groups was Waynoka's own Kourtney Childers. She went through an extensive application process and was one of a handful chosen. She did a fantastic job as a small group leader.

The last night at camp a banquet was held. A major accomplishment for the Waynoka FFA chapter was they had two members chosen from more than 25 applicants for the Flag--Layne Meriwether and Mary Zook. They both did great and had a lot of fun. After the camp was over the Waynoka FFA members who attended left with a different outlook and new skills that will help make the Waynoka FFA chapter a stronger chapter for this coming year.
