Sustainable Grass Tour Aug. 7 and 8 in Weld County

Colorado

Establishing pastures, restoring a property to grass, dealing with competition from weeds, correct mulching materials and managing grasslands for long-term success are some of the challenges addressed at this year's Sustainable Grass Tour.

Hosted by the Colorado State University Extension office in Weld County and Pawnee Buttes Seed Company, the tour begins with registration at 8 a.m., Aug. 7 and 8 at the Weld County Extension 525 N 15th Avenue, Greeley.

Registration fees are $25 per day or $40 for the two-day tour; on-site registration is $30 per day or $50 for the two-day tour.

Travel to each site will be via buses. Most of the day will be spent outside so sunscreen, a hat and walking shoes are recommended. Lunch will also be provided each day.

The program includes insight and discussion about pasture establishment, grass management, reclamation, sustainability and conservation.

Aug. 7 the tour will include Latham Reservoir and Aurora Organic Dairy to learn the correct way to establish a pasture while understanding the challenges of managing grass for long-term success.

Aug. 8 visits include a roadside reclamation site, Soaring Eagle Homeowners Association, Poudre Learning Center, a plant identification site and Sheep Draw Trail to learn about reclamation, sustainability and conservation success and challenges. Bringing back and restoring property to grass and how to deal with the competition from weeds, mulch material decisions and more will be also be discussed.
