Newell sheep sales reportSt. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., Newell, S.D., reported receipts of 998 head July 10, compared to 2,207 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D. No recent market was available to trend the sale. Less attractive slaughter lamb quality resulted in a weaker undertone. Feeder lambs sold with a steady to weak undertone. Demand was moderate. High grain prices across the nation have lighten the demand for light weight feeders, resulting in an increase in demand for heavier offerings that will finish with fewer days on feed. Slaughter lambs: Wooled, Choice 2 to 3, 114 to 120 lbs., 109.00 to 112.00 (110.48). Wooled, Good and Choice 2 to 3, 12 head, 95 lbs., 93.50; 19 head, 115 lbs., 106.00 to 107.50 (106.47). Wooled, Good 1 to 3, 16 head, 136 lbs., 72.50; 26 head, 136 lbs., 79.50 Buck lambs. Slaughter ewes: Utility and Good 1 to 3, 33 head, 172 lbs., 18.75; 28 head, 206 lbs., 17.75. Utility 1 to 2, 6 head, 147 lbs., 17.25; 8 head, 225 lbs., 16.75. Cull 1, 115 to 150 lbs., 7.00 to 8.00 (7.36). Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 20 head, 66 lbs., 103.00; 70 to 73 lbs., 104.50 to 105.50 (105.12); 17 head, 76 lbs., 95.50 blackface; 84 to 88 lbs., 102.50 to 105.25 (104.25); 91 to 97 lbs., 101.00 to 105.50 (103.32); 33 head, 106 lbs., 104.00.
