McAlester livestock sales report

The McAlester Union Livestock Market, McAlester, Okla., reported receipts of 1,675 head July 15, compared to 1,535 head last week and 1,700 head last year, according to the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, steer and heifer calves were steady to $4 higher. Feeder steers were $2 to $3 higher. Feeder heifers were steady. There was a good attendance of buyers and trade was active on feeder cattle, and much improved on calves. Cattle were in medium to fleshy condition. Receipts included 48% steers, 41% heifers, 11% bulls with 34% over 600 pounds. Slaughter cows were steady to $1 lower. Slaughter bulls were steady. Good attendance of buyers. A total of 165 cows and bulls sold at the evening cow sale with 68% to packers.

Light, 21 head, 85 to 90% lean, 750 to 1005 lbs., 48.00 to 51.00; high dressing, 52.00 to 55.50; low dressing, 43.00 to 47.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 12 head, 1300 to 2035 lbs., 72.50 to 73.00; high dressing, 76.00 to 78.00; low dressing, 65.50 to 69.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, heifers, 815 lbs., 4 to 6 months bred, average quality, 800.00.
