IFBF: Balancing food, fuel demands while protecting Iowa's watershedsFarm Bureau sponsors Conservation and Natural Resources Conference Iowa How can Iowa farmers balance the growing needs for food and fuel while improving water quality and soil conservation? What opportunities exist today for Iowa farmers interested in biomass renewable fuel production? Those are just two of the hot topics on tap at the 2008 Conservation and Natural Resource Issues Conference in West Des Moines. The Conservation Conference will be held June 25 at the Iowa Farm Bureau auditorium at 5400 University Avenue in West Des Moines. It features lively presentations on cover crops, biomass and livestock and water quality, among others. Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey will discuss conservation initiatives within agriculture designed to better understand conservation challenges and implement best practices. He will also highlight the opportunities new technologies present to better monitor water quality and evaluate the effectiveness of different practices. "Iowa agriculture continues to face many challenges, including feeding the world, protecting the environment and contributing to energy independence," says Rick Robinson, IFBF environmental policy advisor. "This conference is a great opportunity for members to network with the experts in a one-day format and learn the best ways to meet all of these new challenges." Continuing education credits are also offered for Certified Crop Advisors who are members or guests of members. For more information or to register for the conference, call 515-225-5490 or log on to www.iowafarmbureau.com to access the detailed agenda.
