Gelbvieh Showmanship Contest sees strong competition

Judge Terry Burks of Kentucky complimented each age division on their level of competition during the Showmanship contest at the 2008 American Gelbvieh Junior Association Blue Ridge Classic in Waynesville, N.C. Burks sorted through several heats in each division to find his top 10 showmen for each category. In all three age divisions, the Champion Showman was a repeat of the 2007 AGJA Gateway Classic-different judge, different state with the same results.

Emily Griffiths, of Kendallville, Ind., captured Champion Senior Showman honors at the Blue Ridge Classic. She is the daughter of Carl and Rebecca Griffiths. Zachary Butler of Milton, Tenn., was close behind with Reserve Senior Showman honors. Zach is the son of Michael and Barbi Butler. Rounding out the top ten in the Senior Division: 3. Cameron Burns, Pendleton, S.C.; 4. Ben Carpenter, Vale, Ore.; 5. Christopher Mackey, Mars Hill, N.C.; 6. Jessica Clodfelter, West Salem, Ill.; 7. Shannon Wade, Cynthiana, Ky.; 8. Tahanee Embry, Priddy, Texas; 9. Kaisha Jurgens, Miller, Neb.; and 10. Cassie Robertson, St. James, Mo.

In the Intermediate Division, Ashley Skeels of Boerne, Texas, earned Champion Showman honors. Ashley is the daughter of Howard and Bette Skeels. Dustin Aherin, son of Dennis and Joyce Aherin of Phillipsburg, Kan., won Reserve Champion Intermediate Showman. Rounding out the top 10 were: Kim Chandler, Danielsville, Ga.; 4. Tanner Taubenheim, Amherst, Neb.; and 10. Justin Vehige, Bonnots Mill, Mo.

Sydney Taubenheim of Amherst, Neb., won Champion Junior Showman honors. She is the daughter of Mike and Renee Taubenheim. Earning Reserve Junior Showman honors is Chandler Ladner of Argonia, Kan. He is the son of Teddy Ladner. The remaining top 10 in the Junior Division include: 3. Menzi Spiller, Fredericksburg, Texas; 4. Austin Teeter, Mt. Ulla, N.C.; 5. Kacie Jurgens, Miller, Neb.; 6.
