Ft. Smith livestock sales report

The Ft. Smith Livestock Auction, Ft. Smith, Ark., reported receipts of 722 head July 14, compared to 472 head last week and 753 head last year, according to the Arkansas Extension Service-USDA Market News, Little Rock, Ark.

Compared to last week, slaughter cows were steady. Slaughter bulls were steady to $4 higher. Feeder steers and heifers were steady to $5 higher. The supply included 365 feeder calves, 200 feeder yearlings, 44 replacement cows, 88 slaughter cows, 14 slaughter bulls, and 1 replacement bull. The feeder supply consisted of about 40% English breed and English crosses, 30% exotic breed and exotic crosses, 30% Brahman and Brahman crosses, and 0% Holsteins and other dairy breeds. The feeder supply included about 60% steers and bulls with 40% heifers.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 50.00 to 54.50; high dressing, 55.00 to 59.50. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 45.00 to 49.50; high dressing, 50.00 to 55.50; low dressing, 40.00 to 44.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 54.00 to 58.50; high dressing, 59.00 to 63.50; low dressing, 49.00 to 53.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1000 to 2200 lbs., 67.00 to 72.50; high dressing, 75.00 to 79.00.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 375 to 395 lbs., 124.00 to 125.00 (124.51); 405 to 435 lbs., 115.00 to 123.00 (119.97); 455 to 497 lbs., 110.00 to 118.00 (113.27); 500 to 545 lbs., 105.00 to 114.00 (108.47); 550 to 597 lbs., 104.00 to 110.50 (107.10); 600 to 640 lbs., 104.00 to 109.50 (106.00); 655 to 675 lbs., 100.00 to 108.50 (105.68). Small frame 1, 554 lbs., 43.50. Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 2 to 3 years old, 700 to 1000 lbs., open cows, 73.00 to 93.00; 4 to 6 years old, 800 to 1050 lbs., open cows, 57.00 to 87.50; 7+ years old, 800 to 1100 lbs., open cows, 48.50 to 55.50; 2 to 6 years old, 850 to 1250 lbs., second stage bred, 55.00 to 68.00; 5 to 7 years old, 1050 to 1300 lbs., third stage bred, 58.00 to 59.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 3 to 7 years old, 800 to 1200 lbs., with 100- to 200-lb. calves, 635.00 to 950.00 per pair.
