Council to hold annual meeting with Energy ConferenceKansas The State Association of Kansas Resource Conservation and Development Councils will hold its annual meeting in conjunction with the Conserving the Green-Energy Conference according to Colleen Anderson. Both events will be held at the Courtyard Marriot, Junction City. The SAKRCDC' annual meeting will be Aug. 3 and 4; energy conference, Aug. 5 and 6. "We are excited to be hosting this year's annual meeting for the State Association of Kansas RC&D Councils," said Anderson, president of the Flint Hills Resource Conservation and Development Council, Emporia. The RC&D state association meeting is a time for council members to gather from across the state and share information and learn from one another what is successfully working and to discuss future opportunities for Kansas RC&D councils according to Anderson. Kansas has 12 RC&D areas and more than 93 counties belonging to an authorized or pending RC&D council. During the meeting council members will have the opportunity to receive training and attend an agritourism event at a local Geary County ranch. Following the annual meeting on Aug. 5 and 6, is the "Conserving the Green-Energy Conference" sponsored by the Flint Hills RC&D Council, at the Courtyard Marriott, Junction City. "The energy conference is designed so you can attend one or both days," said Anderson. "Both days of the energy conference will be filled with great speakers that are leaders in their respective fields," said Anderson. "To be able to listen and learn from these folks is an opportunity I hope many will take." Day one of the conference, Aug. 5, is geared for the individual/consumers, small business owners (manufacturing, shops, etc.), farmers/ranchers, engineers, and architects. Those attending will learn what can be done in your homes, farms, place of business to conserve and supplement your energy needs. Speaker topics include state of energy; electricity generation, transmission, and usage; consumer energy efficiency; construction and remodeling; and energy audits. Day two, Aug. 6, the conference speakers will address needs of elected officials and appropriate staff members from rural units of government (city officials, county officials, school districts, and universities). Here's a chance to learn about options and/or policies needed to improve energy efficiency in public facilities, opportunities for energy generation at the local level, funding options, and how Greensburg is "Greening." Speaker topics include energy policy and procedures; community wind; personal wind generation; funding options; and the Greening of Greensburg.
